Mr. Crook, Headmaster of Queen's College,

(see your despatch No.119 of April 29th, 1926) will be 55

in December, 1928. He was first appointed in October, 1902,

and for more than 6 years, since January 1st, 1920, he was

on his maximum of £850.

I recommend that he should draw £1000 from

1st January, 1927, and that 1st January should be adopted

as the date for further increments.

Mr. de Martin will be 55 in December 1929.

He was first appointed in December, 1903. He has held the post of an Inspector of English Schools since 1st January, 1924, and I recommend that he should draw £950 from 1st

January, 1927.

Mr. Birbeck will be 55 in June, 1930. He

was first appointed in July, 1903. I recommend that he

should draw £825 from 1st January, 1927. His case was

specially referred to in paragraph 6 of my Confidential

despatch of 15th July.

Mr. Y. P. Law, Inspector of Vernacular

Schools, has been on his maximum of £600 since 1st January,

1925. Under the new scheme his scale will be

$400-20-600

£625-25-800

Since Mr. A. R. Cavalier left the Colony in March, 1925,

Mr. Law has drawn a monthly allowance of $50 for acting in charge of the Vernacular Inspectorate. This allowance should be withdrawn as from 1st January, 1927, but instead

Mr. Law should proceed to £650.

Mr. Law's work is highly spoken of by the

Director of Education, and is referred to in the enclosure

of my despatch of June 2nd, 1926.
